The Millennium Wheel is a good example of the complex steel structures that Mercon can manufacture. This 135m diameter wheel was constructed with an overall diameter tolerance of only 25mm and delivered within project schedule. Mercon assisted in the installation/erection and won, together with Hollandia, the Dutch National steel price for the manufacture of the Millennium Wheel.

The Millenium Wheel, also called the London Eye, is the world’s largest sightseeing wheel and was build as a landmark in the heart of London for the turn of the millennium.

In the sections on the right you can see different aspects of this challenging project; who was involved, how Mercon achieved the tight tolerances on the rim and how the wheel was transported from the Netherlands to the UK.
