Parties involved in the design, construction & erection

The Millennium Wheel was designed by David Marks and Julia Barfield, a husband and wife architectural team, who also took the initiative to build this incredible structure. Shareholders in the project were British Airways, Marks Barfield Architects and the Tussaud Group.

Mercon was responsible for building the rim (the wheel), the boarding platforms and the restraint towers whereas Hollandia took care of the hub and A-frame legs. The capsules were designed and built by Sigma. Mace acted as construction and project manager.

Finally Tilbury Douglas Construction was awarded the site and marine works whereas Smit International and Mammoet were the major parties involved in the transport and lifting.

Today the Milennium Wheel is operated by London Eye Company Limited and part of the Merlin Entertainments Group.
